Research and outreach activities at CEM focus on three major areas: labor, political participation, and public policy.
CEM´s Women, Citizenship and Politics Program analyzes power relations between the sexes in political institutions and systems. It elucidates the justifications for and the mechanisms of discrimination against women in political life and addresses the need to understand the different forms of exercising citizenship, as well as to provide civic education enabling women to participate in the nation's democratic development. The Gender and Public Policies Program illuminates relations between men and women in the arena of government social policy and studies the formation and administration of public policy from a gender perspective. It brings to light aspects of the interaction of women with government authorities and public employees and shows how the access of women to positions of power in public administration affects the design of gender-based policies.
